Dr. Lily Raveh
Multidisciplinary Artist | Painting, Sculpture and Ceramics
Dr. Lily Raveh was born in Poland in 1947, grew up in Tel Aviv, and currently lives and creates in Gedera, Israel. For many years, she pursued a scientific career in neuroscience while nurturing a deep love for art — a passion that gradually became a central and meaningful part of her life.
Her artistic journey began in the 1990s, while she was working full-time as a neuroscience researcher and living in Rishon LeZion. Ceramics was the first medium to capture her imagination. She studied ceramic design and sculpture with artist Zofia Getreide at Kvutzat Shiller, and later continued her studies in ceramic workshops at the Gedera Community Center under the guidance of ceramic artists Netana Av and Hagar Hirsch.
Over time, Lily established a professional ceramic sculpture studio in her home, equipped with a kiln and specialist tools. The studio enabled her to expand her artistic practice, explore new techniques, and develop her own distinctive visual language. Alongside her own work, she also provided individual art instruction to children and adults.
Following her retirement in 2016, Lily devoted more time to her artistic practice and joined a sculpture workshop at Kibbutz Netzer Sereni, led by artist Maayan Arbel. There, she expanded her sculptural abilities and began working with additional materials and techniques, including cast stone, wood and wire mesh.
At the same time, she continued creating in ceramics and began studying painting at the Gedera Community Center. Painting quickly became an important part of her artistic world, and she continues to develop her work today under the guidance of painter Yehudit Shani in Rishon LeZion.
Today, Lily works across three primary disciplines: painting, stone sculpture and ceramic sculpture. Her work moves between human figures, abstract forms and decorative vessels, using a wide range of materials including oil paint, acrylic, stone, clay and wire mesh.
Her art is rooted in a sensitive observation of people, nature and the surrounding world, together with an ongoing exploration of the relationship between material, form and emotion. Each piece is an original, one-of-a-kind work, created by hand and carrying the artist's unique personal signature.
Lily's home in Gedera, which she shares with her husband, Yehoshua Raveh — a photographer and artist in his own right — also serves as a private gallery for her work. The house reflects the central place that art holds in her life and the creative journey she has pursued for more than three decades.
